Gebhard Frei

Gebhard Frei (born March 24, 1905 in Lichtensteig ; † October 27, 1967 in Zurich ) was a Swiss psychologist .

Life

Frei was ordained a priest in 1931 . From 1932 to 1933 he studied at the University of Innsbruck , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . From 1933 he was professor for philosophy and border sciences in the mission seminar Schöneck (Emmetten).

Frei is considered to be a "pioneer of research into para- and depth psychology from a philosophical and theological point of view". He was “in close contact” with Carl Gustav Jung .

Frei was a co-founder of the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich and president of the Society of Catholic Psychotherapists . He worked in the international society of Catholic parapsychologists and promoted the ecumenical movement . He was also a spiritual advisor to the Working Group of Catholic Female Youth Associations .
