action

The film tells the story of twelve-year-old Justin who, because of a teacher strike, is able to enjoy spontaneous vacation days with his father, who is separated from his mother. Away from life in the big city of Boston and his fearfully protective mother, Justin enjoys the days with his father, who lives in a simple but cozy country house and gives his son the opportunity to experience life in nature every day.

When the message arrives that the teachers have ended their strike, they must return home on the same day. As Justin waits at the train station for the late arriving train, a nervous and anxious looking man hands him an undeveloped photo film with the advice to send it to the police. Shortly afterwards, Justin watches from the window as the man is murdered by two other men in the car. As the carrier of the film, Justin himself is now being followed, held and kidnapped in his car by the two criminals Maddox and Kendall.

After the two clumsy criminals have the film back in their possession, they decide to hand over the now annoying witness Justin to the two clumsy-looking highwaymen Burk and Hogan so that they can "get the boy out of the way" for a fee. With this arrangement, Hogan succeeds in stealing the film from Kendall's jacket pocket.

With an old truck and then a motorbike, Justin tries to escape for the first time, but is picked up again by Burk. In order to avoid any traces, Burk and Hogen decide to carry out their assignment high up in the mountains. After a three-day hike, Justin is immeasurably thrown into a "mine shaft". Justin survived the several meters deep fall unharmed, he was able to free himself from the dungeon.

Justin makes his way down into the valley alone. He has to watch out for the animal world as well as Burk and Hogan, who are also on the way back. Justin can cope with many tricky situations, whereby the knowledge about life in nature imparted by his father helps him. The encounter with the forest man Ansel Flint is amusing for Justin , who gives him a rope as a goodbye.

Justin now goes on the attack himself. In the style of Tarzan and constructed by him zip line , he duped his two opponents and can steal them the photo film. Justin is now the hunted. Chased by Burk, Justin saved himself with a rope bridge over a deep gorge and then climbed a high rock face in the style of an experienced free climber. Shortly before Burk, who follows him, also reaches the summit, he threatens to fall and begs Justin to shake hands with him. However, Burk pulls a knife to stab Justin, which Justin recognizes in time, so that Burk falls.

In the final scene, Justin is rescued from a mountain top in a helicopter after he had drawn attention to his situation with smoke signals .
