The battle near Triesen was fought on February 12, 1499 during the Swabian War between troops of the Swabian Confederation and the Swiss Confederation .
course
On February 11th, the Confederates and the Grisons expelled the Swabian federal troops from St. Luzisteig and Maienfeld and advanced into what is now the Principality of Liechtenstein . On the night of February 12, 1499, 600 Swiss travelers crossed the Rhine and attacked the royal and Swabian troops in their camp between Balzers and Triesen. The main Swiss army was able to cross the Rhine unhindered the following morning. The Swabian contingent was put to flight and the Confederates were able to penetrate as far as Lake Constance . It is assumed that there are 400 to 500 dead, most of them probably on the Swabian side.
