The battle on the Bruderholz on March 22nd, 1499 was a military conflict between soldiers of the Swiss Confederation and the House of Habsburg - Austria and its key ally, the Swabian Federation, during the Swabian War .
course
Austrian riders and infantry from Alsace had invaded Solothurn and burned down part of the village of Dornach . Loaded with booty, they drove stolen herds of cattle before them. On their retreat to Alsace they passed the Bruderholz , where they were surprised by a detachment from Solothurn , Bern and Lucerne who had just returned from a raid from Alsace to Dorneck Castle in Solothurn . The confederates - although inferior in a ratio of 1: 3 - were able to take their booty from the Swabian troops and drive them to flight.
memory
The actual battleground in the Reinach Forest is marked by a simple memorial stone, but in Reinach at the foot of the Bruderholz there is also an artistically magnificent monument with a fountain, which also reminds of the battle on the Bruderholz.
