Against the Wall is an opera composed by Ludger Vollmer based on the script of the film Gegen die Wand . The opera premiered on November 28, 2008 at the Bremen Theater.

Plot and music

The opera is about the fictitious marriage of two young Turks in Germany . Opera music has essential elements of Turkish music.

Creation and staging

Vollmer received the setting rights from Fatih Akın in July 2005. In order to study the structures of Turkish music extensively, the composer met Turkish musicians such as Sinan Celik and Özlem Özdil in Istanbul as part of his work on the work .

In 2008 Ludger Vollmer was awarded the European Tolerance Prize of the KulturForum Europa for his opera . The opera was subsequently performed on various other stages. In 2010 the opera was on the program of the 1st Istanbul Opera Festival, an event in the context of Istanbul as the European Capital of Culture .
