The Geitelder Berg is a mountain in the Braunschweig district of Geitelde and is 110.7  m above sea level. NHN represents the highest elevation in the urban area.

geography

location

The Geitelder Berg is located in the southwest of the city of Braunschweig and runs roughly in a north-south direction between the districts of Geitelde and Stiddien in the north. The Steinberg joins in the northeast . In the east is the Geitelder Holz and in the west the Beddingen train station .

geology

The mountain lies on a relatively steep formation from the east that rises by 30 meters and is made up of the geological Upper Cretaceous of different ages and sloping more gently to the west. The surface water seeps into this soil and only emerges at the foot of the elevation, for example in the Wasche spring or in the Geitelder Graben .

Natural allocation

The Geitelder Berg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Northern Harz foreland (no. 51), in the main unit East Brunswick hill country (512) and in the subunit Okerrandhöhen (512.0) to the natural area Thieder Loesshügelland (512.02).

The natural area extends in a north-south direction between Broitzem and the Oderwald in the south as a narrow, four-kilometer-wide band along the western bank of the Oker. Together with the Steinberg, the Geitelder Berg forms the northern end of the natural subunit Okerrandhöhen. The sandstone ridge of the Thieder Lindenberg joins in the south, and the Hildesheimer Börde extends to the west.

use

As the highest point in the area, it was home to the Geitelde transmitter , a transmission tower over 100 meters high, for more than two decades . The street Am Sender in Geitelde is a reminder of this .

There are several wind turbines on the mountain with a total output of 2.5 MW, in which BS Energy and citizens of Braunschweig, among others , are involved.
