Gela painter
The Gela painter was an Attic vase painter of the black-figure style who lived around 510 to 480 BC. Was active in Athens .
A large part of his works, which mainly consist of lekyths , were exported to western Greece, especially to Sicily and here again to Gela , hence his emergency name . Panel paintings ( pinakes ) also come from him, as a well-preserved laying scene ( prothesis ) shows. His works are already very much in line with the new trends, especially red-figure vase painting, influenced. His painting style is not infrequently fleeting, but his pictures show originality. Especially with myth and genre scenes, he can do a lot. Many of his compositions on small vases correspond to those of larger, more expensive vases. In the Gela painter's shoulder ornaments, the usual outer buds have been replaced by leaves.
