The yellowish fly beetle ( Malthinus flaveolus ) is a beetle from the soft beetle family (Cantharidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 5 to 6.5 millimeters and have a narrow build. Her head is dark brown except for the bright yellow front part, the compound eyes are relatively large and clearly protruding, so that the head is wider than the pronotum . Like the legs, it is yellowish in color, has fine, light hair and is only slightly wider than it is long. The females can have two black elongated spots in the middle on the pronotum, which can also grow together and then dominate the pronotum. Such dark areas can also be found on the upper wings ( elytra ). The elytra are shortened and do not completely cover both the abdomen and the wings below , are yellowish-brown in color and each have a bright yellow tip. However, their yellow coloring may also be missing in some individuals. The first two parts of the antennae are yellow, the rest are black.

Occurrence
The species occurs in Europe , north to the middle of Scandinavia and also on the British Isles . It is common in places and can be found on the edges of forests and on the edge of meadows, from flatlands to flat mountainous regions.
