The Gnadau Common Hall is the church of the Evangelical Brethren in Gnadau , a district of Barby in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The common hall is particularly closely related to the development of the Gnadau village. Gnadau was founded in 1766 by the Brothers Unity , a Christian Reformation faith movement. The place was laid out on a square ground plan with straight streets crossing each other. In the center there is a square jewelry place with the Zinzendorfplatz. On its south-eastern side, the common hall was built in 1780 as a closed construction, directly adjacent to the neighboring houses, as the religious center of the place. The addition of the hall into the row of houses is intended to mark the hall as the residential building of the community , according to the Moravian faith.

architecture

In appearance, it is similar to the free-standing Herrnhuter Hall in Herrnhut, which was built in 1756 . The Gnadau common room was built by master mason Johann Heinrich Brasack and carpenter Ernst Leberecht Bolze . The common hall resembles the typical Protestant cross-hall churches . The building has two identical side portals in accordance with the seating arrangement of the Brothers Unity, which is determined by the choirs. The roof is crowned by a ridge turret. The building has a pilaster structure . At the back towards the cemetery there are two laying out rooms .

Interior

The interior is simply designed in accordance with the customs of the university. Lots of light and white, non-image walls dominate. The liturgical table is on one of the long sides.
An organ built by Wilhelm Rühlmann senior in 1891 is located in an organ case created by wood sculptor Gustav Kuntzsch , Wernigerode , on a gallery on one of the narrow sides. On the other narrow side there is also a gallery with corner boxes, which were intended for passing guests.

Noteworthy is the churchyard (cemetery), which is simple and orderly according to the Unitarian rules and designed for equality.

use

Use is made by the Evangelical Brethren Church. Since around 200 Christians from the Protestant regional church live in Gnadau, mostly members of the Martin Luther congregation Schönebeck / Felgeleben , there is an agreement between the two congregations on how to shape church life in Gnadau together.
