General Electric J73
The General Electric J73 was a turbojet jet engine made by the US manufacturer General Electric .
It is an enlarged further development of the General Electric J47 and, like this, is designed as a single-shaft axial drive. The initial flight test was carried out with a converted Boeing B-29 . The engine was only used in series production in the North American F-86 H.
As an experiment, a Republic F-84 was equipped with a J73 engine, this machine was given the designation YF-84J. Due to the costs, the already delivered F-84 was not converted. The engine was also intended for the Lockheed U-2 , the McDonnell F3H -3 and as an alternative for the Boeing XB-59 , which had not been carried out , without actually being used there.
The J73 served as the basis for the further development of the General Electric J79 .
