Geneviève Laporte , married name Geneviève Laporte de Pierrebourg , (* 1926 in Paris ; † March 31, 2012 ) was a French writer , poet and filmmaker . In the early 1950s she also became known as a model on some works and as the lover of Pablo Picasso .

Life

Geneviève Laporte was a 17-year-old high school student when she interviewed Picasso during World War II in 1944 for her school newspaper in Paris. At that time she had already joined the Resistance . In 1951, after a stay in the United States, she met the artist, who was almost fifty years older than her , who was still in a relationship with Françoise Gilot and had two children with her. Laporte entered into an initially secret affair with Picasso and spent the summer with him and the Éluard couple in Saint Tropez . She made drawings and paintings of her, which some art historians refer to as the “Geneviève Period” or the “Soft Period”. Two years later - Gilot had left him - Picasso made her the proposal to move to him on the French Riviera , which she refused.

In 1959 she married Olivier de Pierrebourg, also a former member of the Resistance, and had a son with him.

Geneviève Laporte died on March 31, 2012 at the age of 86 and is buried in the Bousselargue cemetery in the municipality of Blesle .

Working as a director and writer

Laporte made 18 documentaries in Africa and published, among others, about Pablo Picasso. The first volume of it was published shortly after Picasso's death in 1973 under the title Si tard le soir le soleil brille . In 1999 she won a prize from the Académie française for a volume of poetry.

Importance in the art trade

In June 2005, Laporte had 20 works auctioned at an auction in Paris, the main motifs being of Picasso's portraits of her. The proceeds of 1.54 million euros went to the foundation "Genevieve Laporte de Pierrebourg, pour la defense de la nature et des animaux", which she founded a little later.
