Gennaro Contaldo
Gennaro Contaldo (born January 20, 1949 in Minori ) is an Italian chef , restaurant owner and cookbook author , best known for his collaboration with Jamie Oliver and his partnership with the Italian chef Antonio Carluccio and her BBC Two television series Two greedy Italians .
Life
Contaldo grew up in the village of Minori on the Amalfi Coast and developed his love for food from the days when he went hunting with his father and grandfather and collected herbs for his mother. He started working in local restaurants when he was eight. In 1969 Contaldo left Italy and went to London . In 1974 he married. He has two other children from another relationship. He opened an Italian antique shop before returning to cooking. Contaldo's inspiration for cooking in England came in part from the availability of game and mushrooms, both of which are important ingredients in Amalfi cuisine.
Contaldo later worked for popular London restaurants in the St John's Wood district and at Antonio Carluccio's Neal Street restaurant in the Covent Garden district of London . In 1998 he left the Neal Street Restaurant. Among others, the chefs Jamie Oliver and Tim Mälzer worked for him . Since 1996 he has appeared regularly in cooking shows on British television.
