Geoff Castle
Geoffrey Charles "Geoff" Castle (born June 8, 1949 in London - † January 15, 2020 ) was a British pianist , synthesizer player and composer of fusion jazz .
Live and act
Castle learned the piano from the age of eight. In 1967 he became a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra , with which he played concerts in Great Britain, France and Bulgaria. In 1970 he switched to the septet of Graham Collier , with whom he performed at the 1971 Montreux Jazz Festival . In 1974 he became a member of Nucleus , where he also contributed compositions such as Rachel's Tune and Solar Wind over the next eight years . He was also involved in recordings by Neil Ardley and Ian Dury . In 1981 he composed a suite Impressions of New York for Camden Jazz Week, the Ian Carr can be considered as his "most important composition".
In 1983 and 1984 he toured New Zealand with Brian Smith and wrote the music for the film Should I Be Good? ; then he also worked for British television. In the 1990s he worked for Julian Bahula and the Latin fusion band Paz, but also founded a medium-sized ensemble with which he presented the album Expanded on his label Turret Records. He also acted as a companion for George Coleman , Jimmy Giuffre , James Moody , Beaver Morrison and Art Farmer and played in the Stan Robinson Quartet. Most recently he performed with his trio and the band Carmina.
Castle has also taught at the Guildhall School of Music .
