Geoffrey Reed

Geoffrey Harold Reed (born July 7, 1925 in London - † May 3, 2015 ) was a table tennis official from Jersey . In 2009 he was honored with the ITTF Merit Award for his services to table tennis in Jersey .

Life

Geoffrey Reed completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic with the Royal Air Force . In 1948 he moved to Jersey. Until his retirement he earned his living as a salesman for Hoover , later he worked for Peugeot .

From 1948 he took care of table tennis in Jersey, both as a trainer and as an organizer and functionary. As a result, Jersey was represented at many world championships . At times he was President of the Jersey Table Tennis Association. He regularly represented Jersey at his own expense at the ITTF ( Biannual General Meeting (BGM) ) meetings that took place during the World Championships. Since 1983 he was active as an international arbitrator.

In professional circles he was recognizedly called Mr. Jersey .

On June 16, 1999, the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Center , which he sponsored, opened, serving as a training base and venue for tournaments.
