Georg Anders (sports sociologist)

Georg Anders (* 1942 in Ullersdorf) is a German sports sociologist , sports economist and university professor .

Life

Anders graduated after 1962 in Lüdenscheid passed high school sociology , social psychology and economics in Berlin and Cologne . In 1974 he took up  the position of head of department for sociology at the Federal Institute for Sport Science (BISp). He later became head of the research and development department and permanent representative of the director at the BISp. From 1977 he also held a teaching position at the Institute for Sports Sociology and from 1989 at the Institute for Sports Economics and Sports Management at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS). He worked for the DSHS as a lecturer for almost 30 years.

At the sport-political level, Anders worked in various committees of the Council of Europe , the German Olympic Sports Confederation , the German Athletics Association and the International Olympic Committee . From 1984 to 1991 Anders was the spokesman for the Sports Sociology Section at the German Association for Sports Science and from 2001 General Secretary of the European Association for Sports Sociology. He was a member of the advisory board of the “Freiburg Circle” and also sat on the advisory boards of the series “Nature Conservation and Leisure Society” and the magazine “Sportbund und Gesellschaft - Sport and Society”. His areas of expertise included the areas of sports clubs and associations, women's sports, sport-economic issues, the top-level sports system and the promotion of young talent.

In 2000 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the German Sport University in Cologne, and in 2006 the same institution also made him an honorary professor .

Anders retired in May 2007.
