Georg August Spangenberg (lawyer)

Georg August Spangenberg (born December 4, 1738 in Göttingen ; † March 4, 1806 ) was a German law scholar and university professor.

Life

Spangenberg was the son of the Göttingen lawyer and titular mayor Ernst August Spangenberg and studied philosophy and law at the University of Göttingen . After completing his studies, from 1761 to 1766 he accompanied two young Counts Stolberg-Stolberg on their Grand Tour and to universities abroad as court master with the title of Countess Stolberg's Council .

In 1771 he became an associate professor in Göttingen and a full professor of law in 1784. He read institutions , pandects, and Roman public and private law .

Spangenberg was married to the poet Dorothea Katharina Elisabeth Wehrs (pseudonym Aemilia or Dorothea Wehrs , born February 10, 1756, † June 18, 1808) who belonged to the Göttingen Hainbund . The two had ten children, including the sons Ernst Peter Johann Spangenberg and Johann Georg Spangenberg .
