Georg Ernst Wilhelm Berg

Georg Ernst Wilhelm Berg (born August 13, 1878 in Dresden , † November 13, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German geologist and mineralogist .

Georg Berg first attended the Holy Cross grammar school in Dresden and graduated from the Annenreal grammar school at Easter 1896 . He then studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg and obtained his diploma as a mining engineer in autumn 1901. In 1901 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in 1903 with a thesis on the magnetic iron ore bearings of Schmiedeberg in the Giant Mountains. From 1903 until its dissolution on April 1, 1939, he worked at the Prussian State Geological Institute .

He delivered significant work on petrography , geochemistry and reservoir science .

In 1946 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
