Georg Friesinger

Georg Friesinger (born March 31, 1953 - † July 4, 1996 ) was a German speed skating all-rounder.

Georg Friesinger was one of the athletes who tried to set up a powerful West German speed skating team in Inzell , Bavaria, at the beginning of the 1970s. In January 1973 Friesinger took part in the junior all-around world championships held for the first time in Assen . Here he finished 34th in the victory of the Dutchman Jan Heida . Other opponents were the Norwegian Amund Martin Sjøbrend and the later American Olympic champion and today's coach Peter Mueller .

Georg Friesinger started for the German speed skating club "Frillensee" Inzell . In 1972 he became German Vice Junior Champion at the Little Four Fighting in Inzell and repeated the placement the following year. In 1973 and 1975 he took part in German championships and finished in places five to seven.

At the Junior World Championships in 1973 he got to know and love the Polish speed skater Janina Korowicka . After the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , in which his wife still took part, the couple settled in Bad Reichenhall and started a family. Georg Friesinger worked as a car mechanic.

All three of the couple's children have become professional speed skaters. He was married to former Polish speed skater Janina Korowicka . Anni , who later became Olympic champion, was born in 1977, Jan in 1980 and Agnes in 1984 .

On July 4, 1996, Friesinger died of a stroke at the age of only 43 .
