Georg Geiger

Georg Geiger (born August 7, 1894 in Unterhaid, Sommersried municipality , Oberamt Wangen ; † October 4, 1972 in Hanover ) was a German trade unionist , haulier and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending elementary school , Geiger trained as a baker and worked as a baker and factory worker. During the First World War from 1914 to 1918 he did military service.

From June 1922 to November 1931 he was managing director of the factory workers' association in Heilbronn . After Fritz Ulrich, who was additionally elected to the Reichstag , resigned his state parliament mandate, Geiger moved up for him and was a member of the Württemberg state parliament from February 19 to November 19, 1931 . Then he resigned the mandate as well, and Anton Arnold took over for him .

From November 1931 to 1933 Geiger was secretary on the main board of the factory workers' association in Hanover . After 1945 he was the owner of a long-distance freight and bus company in Hanover. In addition to various other association and honorary offices, he was President of the Central Working Group of the Road Transport Industry (ZAV) from 1947 to 1968. From 1946 to 1952 he was also a city ​​councilor in Hanover.

Awards

Georg Geiger received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1953 , the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 1959 and the Great Federal Cross of Merit with a Star in 1969. In 1963 he also received the Golden Diesel Ring .
