Georg Gerstacker (born June 3, 1889 in Nuremberg , † December 20, 1949 ) was a successful German wrestler .

Career

Georg Gerstacker belonged to the ASC "Sandow" Nuremberg. In 1912 he won the Olympic elimination and represented Germany at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 in the wrestling of the featherweight class in the Greco-Roman style. There he defeated the Hungarians Szoszky, the Finns Risto Mustonen, Havonen, Kangas and Lehmusvirta, the Swede Johansson and was only defeated in the final by the Finn Kaarlo Koskelo . He won the silver medal with it.

Further international successes

  • 1913 World Championship fourth in the lightweight (-67.5 kg!) In Breslau;
  • 1914 European championship second in featherweight in Vienna behind the Hungary Breznotics;
  • 1921 European championship third in featherweight in Offenbach behind Andersson and Hermann Brodbeck , both Germany;
  • 1924 European flyweight champion in Neunkirchen / Saar

German champion was "Schorsch" Gerstacker in 1924, 1925 and 1927, German runner-up in 1926 and third place in the German championship in 1919 and 1922, both in the flyweight (Greek-Roman style). In 1919 he was third in featherweight behind his club mates Franz Reitmeier and Hermann Brodbeck, Untertürkheim.

Gerstacker only weighed a little more than 50 kg and so mostly had to compete against much heavier opponents. For example, Koskelo, his final opponent in Stockholm, weighed eight kg more than him. His successes are all the more remarkable.
