Georg Gottlob Balemann , since July 2, 1804 at Balemann's own request , (born September 1, 1735 in Eutin , † April 17, 1815 in Wetzlar ) was a Reich Chamber Court assessor.

Live and act

Georg Gottlob Balemann was a son of the theologian Hinrich Balemann and his wife Ottilia Elisabeth, née Woldenberg. He had five sisters and seven brothers, including the pastor Adolph Friedrich Balemann .

Balemann probably attended the Eutin school of scholars and enrolled in the law faculty of the University of Göttingen in 1755 . His teachers included Georg Christian Gebauer , Schmaus, Eyerer, Georg Ludwig Böhmer and especially Johann Stephan Pütter . Influenced by Pütter, with whom he was in lifelong contact, Balemann dealt in particular with German private law and German legal history. Most likely it was also Pütter who helped his pupil in 1760 to a position as assistant advocate and debit officer at the Imperial Court of Justice in Wetzlar .

Balemann did not speak in court himself. Instead, he should establish contacts between the admitted lawyers and parties. In 1767 a visit to the Reich Chamber of Commerce began, which had a decisive influence on Balemann's career. He worked as a secretary for the Saxon-Gotha sub-delegation and in 1774 became a sub-delegate from Anhalt-Bernburg. In this position he wrote several works from 1774 to 1780, which are considered to be the most important source for these events. His writings show that he was the most knowledgeable person on legal and historical issues related to the visitation.

Due to his reputation, Balemann strove for the post of judge at the Reich Chamber of Commerce. In 1778 he presented himself to the Protestant estates of the Upper and Lower Saxony district and delivered a test work. In 1780 he got the last position of assessor and worked in this position until the court was dissolved in 1806.

family

Balemann had been married to Friederica Magdalena Waltz since his marriage on January 3, 1771 in Wetzlar. The couple had a son named Johann Christian Albert (born March 15, 1775 in Wetzlar). This worked until 1814 as court judge at the Nassau court in Wiesbaden .
