Live and act

Hinrich Balemann was a son of pastor Albert Balemann (born May 1, 1656 in Lübeck ; † October 6, 1714 in Kirchwerder) and his wife Anna Maria, née Hoppe (baptized on July 18, 1666 in Hamburg ; † October 11, 1725 there ). He initially received home lessons and attended the Michaelis School in Lüneburg from 1704 to 1711 . He then studied theology at the University of Jena until 1714 . His teachers included Johann Franz Buddeus , Johann Andreas Danz , Johann Reinhard Rus and Burkhard Gotthelf Struve .

After a one-year break, Balemann moved to Kiel University . Here he attended lectures by Heinrich Muhlius , zum Felde and Opitz, among others . He then worked for five years as a private tutor with Wulf Jasper von Brockdorff in Osterrade and Groß Nordsee . After graduating in December 1720 in Lübeck , he taught the youngest son of the Eutin court counselor Woldenberg as a private tutor. This is how he got to know Prince-Bishop Christian August .

In 1725 Balemann was ordained at the Eutin Castle Church. He then followed a call as a travel preacher and confessor for Prince Karl , the eldest son of the Prince-Bishop. A little later, Balemann accompanied the prince on a “cavalier tour” through Europe. The trip ended in St. Petersburg in 1727 due to the death of Prince Charles. Baleman returned to Eutin and in October 1727 took over the position of court preacher and confessor of Prince-Bishop Adolf Friedrich . He traveled with him in 1729/30 through northwestern Europe. During the trip they lived in Paris for three months.

In 1732 Balemann was appointed Church and Consistorial Councilor, two years later Superintendent of the Principality of Lübeck. From 1738 until the end of his life he also worked as the main pastor of the Eutin town church .
