David T. Gove (born May 4, 1978 in Centerville , Massachusetts , † April 5, 2017 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was an American ice hockey player and coach who played two games for the Carolina Hurricanes has played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . Mainly, however, he was active in the American Hockey League , where he completed almost 500 matches. In theIn the 2015/16 season Gove briefly filled the post of head coach of the Wheeling Nailers from the ECHL .
Career
Gove spent his junior years at Western Michigan University between 1997 and 2001 . There he played alongside his studies for the university team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During that time he was twice elected to the Division's Second All-Star Team.
Since the striker was not included in the NHL Entry Draft , he moved to the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League after completing his college career in the spring of 2001, until the end of the season . With the team he eventually won the Turner Cup . Then Gove was active for numerous teams in the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and Central Hockey League . At the AHL level he played for the Grand Rapids Griffins , San Antonio Rampage , Utah Grizzlies and Providence Bruins until the summer of 2005 , before he was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes from the National Hockey League in early August 2005. There the attacker was in the roster of the farm team Lowell Lock Monsters in the AHL during the 2005/06 season , but celebrated his NHL debut for the Hurricanes during the season, in which he was used once. On their way to winning the Stanley Cup this season, Gove was in the Carolinas training squad during the play-offs , but did not make any further appearances. In the following season he played another game for the reigning Stanley Cup winner, but otherwise spent the game year without exception with the new AHL farm team Albany River Rats .
After Gove had played there until the end of January 2008, he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Joe Jensen and given to the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins farm team . He ended the 2007-08 season and became the 2008/09 season for their team captain appointed. Ultimately, he only played 20 games for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins during the season and ended his active career at the age of 31 after the season.
After a break of several years, Gove was hired as assistant coach by the Wheeling Nailers from the ECHL before the 2015/16 season . There he worked under the direction of head coach Clark Donatelli . After Donatelli was promoted to head coach of the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in mid-December 2015, Gove was promoted to head coach of the Nailers on an interim basis . A month later, he finally rose to head coach and filled this post into the playoffs, before leaving the team for undisclosed reasons. In July 2016, he was replaced by Jeff Christian .
On April 5, 2017, Gove was found lifeless in a rehab clinic in Pittsburgh . Numerous packets of heroin were discovered around the body . Gove was 38 years old.
