Georg Gresser

Georg Gresser (born January 30, 1962 in Essen ) is a German medievalist and church historian .

After graduating from the Dreikönigsgymnasium in Cologne, Gresser studied history , Catholic theology , historical auxiliary sciences , library sciences , education , Jewish studies and Byzantine studies in Cologne and Bonn . After state examination and Master of Arts he received his doctorate in 1993 at Odilo Engels to Dr. phil. in medieval history at the University of Cologne. In 2004, he became the Faculty of Catholic Theology University of Bamberg with a study of the councils in the time of the reformed papacy specialist Medieval and Modern Church History habilitation .

Gresser's research areas include papacy history , hagiography , council history , chronology , codicology and interreligious dialogue . Since 2009 he has been teaching history and religion at the Archbishop's Suitbertus Gymnasium in Düsseldorf . Since the winter semester 2013/14 he has been a lecturer at the Philosophical-Theological College of Steyler Missionaries in Sankt Augustin for the subject of church history.
