Georg Grosch (politician)

Georg Grosch (born December 9, 1906 in Bamberg ; † July 28, 1987 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Grosch was an editorial employee of the SPD newspaper Der Free State in Bamberg. He was involved in the union and in workers' sports . After the seizure of power of the Nazis he was arrested and by the Gestapo in the concentration camp Dachau admitted. He was released after a while, but was then under police supervision. With the beginning of the Second World War he was called up for military service and served in the Air Force. In 1944 he became a French prisoner of war. He was only released in 1946 and returned to Bamberg.

Political party

Grosch became a member of the Socialist Youth Workers' Youth in 1920 and was their sub-district chairman in Bamberg for several years . In 1925 he also joined the SPD. From 1946 to 1948 he was a full-time party secretary for the SPD.

MP

Grosch became a member of Bamberg's city council for a few weeks in 1933. From November 19, 1952, when he replaced the late Franz Röll , he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament until 1966 . He was also a member of the District Advisory Council for Upper Franconia from 1948 .

Public offices

From 1948 to 1956 and again from 1960 to 1972 he was the third mayor of Bamberg and as such a consultant for public welfare, the youth welfare office and the compensation office.

Honors

On January 13, 1964, he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by the Bavarian Prime Minister . In 1972 he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
