Georg Heinrich Kaemmerer

Georg Heinrich Kaemmerer (born February 29, 1824 in Hamburg ; † June 5, 1875 there ) was a Hamburg merchant, banker and member of parliament.

Kaemmerer joined the banking and trading company operated by his ancestors since 1750, which he continued with great success together with his brother Wilhelm Heinrich Kaemmerer under the name GH Kaemmerer Sons . He was one of the founders of the Vereinsbank Hamburg , from 1854 to 1874 he was a member of its supervisory board , which was then called the management. Part of the banking business was transferred from GH Kaemmerer Söhne to the Vereinsbank. Kaemmerer prevailed against his father, who opposed the establishment of a bank. Kaemmerer was on the board of directors of the Berlin-Hamburg Railway Company and was a member of the Mecklenburg Railway Company's committee .

In addition to his professional activity, Kaemmerer was involved in local self-government. He was a member of the lower court from 1855 to 1857 and a commercial judge from 1858 to 1860. From 1861 to 1866 he was a member of the finance deputation and was sent to other deputations as a supervisor. Kaemmerer belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1859 to 1860 and from 1863 to 1865.

Kaemmerer married Emilie (Emmy) Helene Goßler (March 1, 1838 - April 15, 1910) on April 27, 1855 , a daughter of Hermann Goßler . Werner von Melle married his daughter Emmy Kaemmerer in 1880. The daughter Susanne marries Eduard Wilhelm Westphal . A picture of his daughter Helene (1869–1953) painted by Julius Geertz is exhibited in the Museum of Hamburg History . Kaemmerer had the same name as his father, which is why he is often referred to as Kaemmerer junior. The Kaemmererufer in Hamburg-Winterhude is named after him.

Georg Heinrich Kaemmerer is commemorated on the collective grave slab merchants (II b) of the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery, Ohlsdorf Cemetery .
