Manfred Pohl (economist)

Manfred Pohl (born May 26, 1944 in Bliesransbach near Saarbrücken ) is a historian and economist who holds an honorary professorship in the economics department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

After a bank apprenticeship at Saarländische Kreditbank Saarbrücken , he began studying German , history , philosophy and economics . In 1972 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Saarland banking history.

Between 1972 and 2001 he headed the Historical Institute of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main. During this period he was also the initiator, co-founder and board member of various companies, such as the Society for Corporate History established in 1976 , The European Association for Banking and Financial History eV founded in 1990 , the Historical Society of Deutsche Bank e. V. and the Society for European Business History founded in 1997 .

In 1998 he founded the Europoint association , which accompanied the introduction of the euro. Over 1000 euro banknotes painted by children with cancer, artists and celebrities were exhibited by this association in the 12 euro countries and then auctioned for the benefit of children with cancer. In 2001, at the instigation of Europoint, the symbol of the euro was placed in front of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt.

From 2002 to 2005, Manfred Pohl brought together the global cultural activities and foundations of Deutsche Bank in the Institute for Corporate Culture Affairs (ICCA) set up especially for this purpose . Since 2002 he has also been chairman of the board of the Frankfurter Kultur Komitee e.V., which he founded in 2002 . V. (FraKK), who founded the value-conservative initiative Frankfurter Zukunftsrat in 2008, which includes politicians Oswald Metzger and Wolfgang Clement . In 2003 the International Institute for Corporate Cultural Affairs e. V. (ICCA) was founded, which Pohl also heads.

From 1981 Manfred Pohl taught corporate history and corporate culture at the JWGoethe University in Frankfurt am Main . 1992 awarded him the University in the Department of Economics , the Honorary Chair for the Finance Department .

Since 2003 Manfred Pohl has been committed to the “reform of Germany's ability to reform” as a managing board member of the Convention for Germany . He founded this in October 2003 together with Roland Berger and Hans-Olaf Henkel in Berlin.

  • 2001: European Culture Prize of the European Cultural Foundation Pro Europa in the European Parliament in Strasbourg
  • 2011: Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany "for his charitable work for society and his committed commitment to the growing together of the European banking and finance world"
