Georg Heller

Georg Heller (* 1929 in Berlin ; † 2006 in Stuttgart ) was a German economist , journalist and writer .

Life

Georg Heller was born in Berlin in 1929. His father was a Jew. When the situation of the Jews under the Nazi regime became more and more threatening, he emigrated in 1935. His wife, their two daughters and Georg stayed behind in Berlin. From 1938 he attended the French grammar school in Berlin-Tiergarten. When the race laws were tightened further in 1943 , he was banned from further schooling. The mother and the children fled to their grandmother's in Silesia, then to Bavaria. Since Georg Heller was now of military age, he was arrested and forced to work in a camp. After the end of the war, the reunited family settled in Aalen as refugees . There Heller attended the Schubart high school , where he graduated from high school in 1950. After studying economics, he worked as a business journalist for the " Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ", the " Handelsblatt " and the " Stuttgarter Zeitung "; he was a member of the German Press Council . In 1972 he was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize . In the dispute about Martin Walser's novel “ Death of a Critic ”, Heller defended Walser against accusations of anti-Semitism in his book “Finally an end ?:“ Germans ”and“ Jews ”- Experiences” .
