Leyya is an Austrian electro-pop duo from Eferding , which is now based in Vienna . The band received two Amadeus Austrian Music Awards : 2017 with the FM4 Award ( Amadeus Award 2017 ) and 2018 in the category "Best Alternative" ( Amadeus Award 2018 ).

After the release of their first EP ( Drowning In Youth ), the band received their first major attention outside of their Austrian homeland in early 2015 with the single Superego . For the debut album "Spanish Disco", which was released in this environment, the band won the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category "Alternative Pop / Rock" and for the FM4 Award (which is also presented as part of the Amadeus Austrian Music Award) nominated. In view of the growing international interest, an extended version of the album with the bonus tracks Butter and Worthy as well as remixes was released in spring 2016 .

In 2016, Leyya was the first Austrian band to be among the top 10 most booked newcomers on the list published annually by the European Talent Exchange Program ETEP. This led u. a. Performances at renowned European festivals such as Iceland Airwaves , Reeperbahn Festival , Eurosonic and The Great Escape. In addition to international appearances, Leyya headlined the Popfest on Karlsplatz in Vienna that summer .

In spring 2017 the band was honored with the FM4 Award at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2017 . Leyya were invited to the Primavera Sound in Barcelona and released the single "Zoo". In autumn, an extensive European tour with "Oh Wow" and "Drumsolo" also featured internationally acclaimed precursors to the second album "Sauna", which was finally released in January 2018 and climbed to number 12 in the Austria Top 40 album charts. In 2018 the band received another 'Amadeus', this time in the alternative category .

In the summer, the band followed up with the single 'Wannabe', the video clip of which received a UK Music Video Award in the category Best Pop Newcomer in London in October of the same year .

The duo initially included the information on their Facebook profile as an explanation for their band name that the word Leyya comes from the Inuktitut and means marketing strategy , which the media often adopted.
