Georg Heuermann
Georg Heuermann (* 1722 or 1723 in Oldesloe ; † December 6, 1768 in Copenhagen ) was a German-Danish surgeon , physiologist and university professor .
Life
Heuermann was the son of councilor Jürgen Heuermann. He attended school in his hometown and then began training as a surgeon. His progress led him to Copenhagen in 1743 as a surgeon for Count Danneskjold-Laurvigen. There he was able to continue his studies with Simon Krüger at his anatomical-surgical theater , in 1746 he became a prosector with Johannes von Buchwald. On 30 September 1748 he was finally at the University of Copenhagen enrolled and just over a year later, on 21 October 1749 he was there with the dissertation De lingua humana (On the human tongue) for Dr. med. be awarded a doctorate .
Heuermann was then active in surgeon training, gave lectures and became active as a writer. In 1758 he was appointed military doctor in Holstein , which is why he initially gave up teaching and research. In 1760 he was appointed Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. Nevertheless, he worked regularly in various positions for the military until 1762. From 1765 he was giving lectures again. In 1764 he got married to a merchant's daughter, which improved his economic position and finally allowed him to purchase a larger property in 1768. However, he died of a severe fever that same year .
Heuermann suffered from the little recognition that his contemporaries bestowed on him. Among other things, he lacked high education and knowledge of Latin. Nevertheless, his work is sometimes considered to be progressive, for example he succeeded in an advanced corneal operation .
