Georg Iwanowitsch Kiesewetter

George Ivanovitch Kiesewetter ( Russian Георг Иванович Кизеветтер * 1808 in St. Petersburg , † May 22 jul. / 3. June  1857 greg. In Arkhangelsk ) was a Russian architect .

Life

Kiesewetter's father was a historian and music theorist . Kiesewetter studied 1819-1829 in the architecture department of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts .

After graduating, Kiesewetter was appointed architect of the tax office in the Nizhny Novgorod governorate. His duties included the repair and construction of the state buildings in the cities of the governorate: post offices, barracks, prisons, hospitals and poor houses. In 1836 he became the first chief architect of the city of Nizhny Novgorod on the recommendation of the government architect Ivan Yefimovich Yefimov . In 1840 Kiesewetter was appointed architect of the Nizhny Novgorod Exhibition Center . In 1846 Kiesewetter was dismissed due to a conflict with the head of the building commission and returned to St. Petersburg.

For a long time Kiesewetter tried to get justice from the government authority through the courts. In 1856 he was appointed Archangelsk City Architect. Here, too, there was a conflict with the local authorities. He was sick and died after a year.
