Georg Jarzembowski

Georg Jarzembowski (born February 3, 1947 in Braunschweig ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from the Martino-Katharineum in Braunschweig in 1966 , Jarzembowski completed his military service and began studying law at the University of Hamburg in 1968 , which he completed in 1973 with the first state examination in law. After the subsequent legal clerkship , he passed the Great State Examination in 1975. He initially worked as a lawyer in Hamburg. In 1978 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the University of Hamburg with the thesis "Incorrect organ files according to German and American company law with special consideration of the institute of the de facto officer" . In the same year he joined the Hamburg judiciary as a judge at the regional court . From 1979 to 1991 Jarzembowski was a consultant in the judicial authority of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, most recently as government director . He has been admitted to the Hamburg bar again since 2009.

Georg Jarzembowski is married and has one son.

Party and MP

He has been a member of the CDU since 1968. Jarzembowski was a member of the CDU state executive in Hamburg and was state chairman of the Europa-Union Hamburg until 2006 .

From 1974 to 1978 Jarzembowski belonged to the district assembly in the Hamburg-Mitte district and from October 7, 1979, when he replaced Erik Blumenfeld , he was a member of the Hamburg citizenship until his resignation on September 25, 1991 .

On September 5, 1991, he replaced Hartmut Perschau in the European Parliament. From 2003 to 2004 he was chairman of the Temporary Committee for the Improvement of Safety at Sea (MARE). He was chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Delegation for relations with Japan , spokesman for the EPP-ED Group on Chinese Affairs and chairman of the European Parliament's Intergroup Friends on Taiwan .

Jarzembowski was the spokesman for the EPP-ED Group in the Committee on Transport and Tourism (the so-called coordinator). Here he was u. a. European Parliament rapporteur on the draft directive on the controversial liberalization of port services (also known as the " port package ") and supported the draft directive in principle - despite strong criticism from the constituency of Hamburg, which he represented. In addition, since 1993 he has been the European Parliament's rapporteur for the development of the railway system in Europe (the so-called first to third railway packages).

In the 2009 European elections, Jarzembowski did not run again and accordingly left the European Parliament on July 13, 2009.
