Kaes GmbH , better known under the brand name V-MARKT , is a medium-sized group of companies active in retail and wholesale in southern Bavaria, with its headquarters since 1997 in Mauerstetten near Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu . The company goes back to the specialty and regional products store founded by Josef Kaes in 1865 . The first shop at that time was located on Ludwigstrasse in Kaufbeuren. There has been a focus on wholesale since 1963 with the establishment of the first C&C store in Kaufbeuren-Hirschzell. In 1967 the company expanded rapidly with the establishment of the first V-Markt. In addition, independent fashion stores were established under the name Christl's Modemarkt , the concept of which has been gradually transferred to all larger V-stores since the late 1970s.

In the 1980s, in addition to the core business in wholesale and retail, other business areas such as petrol stations, car washes and hardware stores were created. The Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH, with its locations in southern Germany, is a major player in the food retail sector and one of the largest training companies in the Allgäu.
