Georg Klein (born March 29, 1953 in Augsburg ) is a German writer .

Career

After graduating from high school and completing his community service, Georg Klein studied German, history and sociology at the universities of Augsburg and Munich. In 1984 his first stories appeared in German literary magazines. His first book publication, the agent novel Libidissi , was celebrated as one of the best German-language books of the year in 1998 and was awarded the Brothers Grimm Prize in 1999 . The jury justified its decision: "The author designs [...] a fantastic, oriental world that captivates the reader by changing perspectives and confronts him with ever new puzzles." Also in 1999 was the volume of short stories Calling the Blind Fish . In 2000 Klein was awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize . In the spring of 2001 the detective story Barbar Rosa was published , followed by two more novels, The Sun Shines Us and Sin Goodness Lightning .

In the novel of our childhood , Georg Klein brings to life a childhood world of the 1960s that was still shaped by the post - war era . On their summer forays through fallow land and subterranean corridors, the children of a newly emerging settlement on the outskirts of Augsburg encounter the unreal world of war-disabled tank drivers. In 2010 he received the Leipzig Book Fair prize in the “ Fiction ” category for the work . He received another nomination in 2018 for his novel Miakro .

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Klein lives with his wife, the writer Katrin de Vries , and two sons in the East Frisian town of Bunde .
