Georg Leidinger (born December 30, 1870 in Ansbach , † March 9, 1945 in Marquartstein ) was a German historian and librarian .

Georg Leidinger studied law and history at the University of Munich and received his doctorate there with a thesis on the late medieval Bavarian chronicler Veit Arnpeck . During his studies he became a member of the Academic Choral Society in Munich . In 1893 he joined today's Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and ten years later became head of the manuscript department. Leidinger mainly worked in the field of medieval source studies and published the editions of the Bavarian chroniclers Veit Arnpeck and Andreas von Regensburg , which are still relevant today . In 1922, Leidinger became an honorary professor for library science at the University of Munich and finally deputy general director at the Bavarian State Library. The hoped-for promotion to general director was denied him. From 1929 until his death he was the first chairman of the Commission for Bavarian State History , and was also a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (full member since 1916) and the Historical Commission (full member since 1920). He was editor of the Upper Bavarian Archives from 1909 to 1941.
