Georg Lenk (carver)
Georg Lenk (born September 22, 1901 in Schneeberg ; † May 10, 1977 ) was a German wood sculptor from the Ore Mountains .
Life
The trained lathe operator worked for SDAG Wismut from 1949 to 1953 , where he was honored three times as an activist. During this time he joined the carving community Schlägel und Eisen in the Kulturbund of the GDR , where he worked as a carving master from 1953 to 1964. He was supported by Reinhold Langner , who gave wood carving courses in Schneeberg. Langner also recommended Lenk as a master carver in the House of Erzgebirge Folk Art in Schneeberg, which was founded in 1953 . He held this position until 1962. Then, until his retirement in October 1970, Lenk worked as a trainee instructor at the technical school for applied arts in Schneeberg . In 1964 he was given the official title of wood designer . His workshop was at Langgasse 12.
Lenk's works were represented at all major folk art exhibitions in the GDR after 1945.
