Werner Unger (local history researcher)

Werner Unger (born October 22, 1922 , † October 4, 2014 ) was a German homeland researcher and dialect spokesman.

Unger was born in 1922 as the son of the editor and later NSDAP city councilor Curt Unger in Schneeberg . After attending primary school, he took up an apprenticeship as a baker. He began to publish about his home in the Ore Mountains at an early age . Over the years, over 2000 articles in magazines, newspapers and books were made - especially during his time in the Kulturbund and the “Heimatforschung” working group he co-founded in 1952.

In 2002 he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown Schneeberg (Ore Mountains) . In 2007 he donated his local history collection to the Schneeberg City Archives.
