Georg Lindenskov Samuelsen

Georg Lindenskov Samuelsen (born January 8, 1910 in Tórshavn , † February 17, 1997 ibid) was a Faroese journalist and from 1936 to 1981 the long-time chief editor of the newspaper Dimmalætting .

Life

In 1925, when he was 15, he started working for Dimmalætting, the Sambandsflokkurin newspaper . His father Andrass Samuelsen was chairman of the unionist party at the time. A good ten years later, in 1936, he took over the management of the paper from Poul Niclasen, which he was not to hand over for the next 45 years. Even after his retirement in 1981, he stayed at the Dimmalætting editorial team until the 1990s to continue working there.

From 1945 he was also a special correspondent for the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende . In 1970 he was made an honorary member of the Sambandsflokkurin for his many years of service.

Georg L. Samuelsen was also active as a writer at the same time. In 1930 he published the poetry collection Sól og Sirm . This was followed by translations of radio plays for Faroese radio ( Útvarp Føroya ), as well as translations of plays for the theater company "Havnar Sjónleikarfelag", of which he was a member of the board from 1952 to 1967. Here, too, he was finally made an honorary member.

Georg Lindenskov Samuelsen was the youngest son of Andrass Samuelsen , the first Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, and his wife Beata Lindenskov. His older brothers were the politician Trygvi Samuelsen and Steingrim Samuelsen, the Sýslumaður of Eysturoy . Georg Lindenskov Samuelsen was married to Rachel, b. Fonsdal from Vestmanna . Daughters are the politician Lisbeth L. Petersen and the journalist Beate L. Samuelsen.
