Georg Ludwig Freed (born November 26, 1858 in Worms ; † February 14, 1936 there ) was a German architect .

Life

Georg Ludwig Freed attended secondary school in Worms from 1865 to 1875. From 1875 he took private lessons in languages ​​and higher mathematics, studied eight semesters as a regular student at the Technical University of Darmstadt and also took the subjects required for civil service. In 1879 he passed his final exam and then worked on various large construction sites in Germany.

Between 1881 and 1888 he devoted himself to further training, including artistic training, and worked in various architectural offices in Munich , Berlin and Hamburg . From March 1888 he spent a longer period of study in Italy , and from autumn 1888 he was in Worms, partly working on his studies, partly on designing competitions. From summer 1889 he worked in the service of the city of Mannheim , from summer 1893 he worked there as a freelance architect. From 1914 to 1918 he was a reserve officer in action at the Lörrach post office. From 1918 onwards Freed lived again in Worms as a "private man", in his parents' house at 28 Wollstrasse with his sister Barbara, where he died on February 14, 1936.

In their joint will, Georg Ludwig Freed and his sister Barbara donated documents to the city of Worms, which were taken over in 1942 by the then museum and the city's cultural institutes. The material of the "Freed Foundation" includes personal letters, postcards and papers, diaries, documents as well as artisanal, artistic and family history documents (especially from 1850 to 1935). A large part is taken up by Freed's actual estate (drafts, drawings, maps, plans, newspapers, especially from the years 1889/93 and 1914).
