Georg Malmstén (born June 27, 1902 in Helsinki , Finland , † May 25, 1981 in Helsinki) was a Finnish singer , musician , composer , orchestra director and actor . He belonged to the Swedish- speaking part of Finland, but the name also occurs in Finnish: Jori Malmsten .

Live and act

As a child he received awards for his cornet game, while serving in the army he quickly made a career for himself and became Finland's youngest music sergeant at 19. He then studied opera singing, but also turned to popular music and recorded a total of 842 songs on record over the course of his life . In the mid-1930s he directed the famous Dallapé Orchestra.

Soon he also began to compose his own songs. His catchy melodies were mostly written in the minor key (soon he was nicknamed "Molli-Jori") and thus fully met the sentimental soul of the Finns. Some of his songs can be ascribed folk song status. Malmstén's compositional fantasy is remarkable, many of his songs not only consist of a verse melody and a refrain melody , but also a third melody for an instrumental interlude .
