Georg Matthiae

Georg Matthiae (born March 20, 1708 in Husum / Schleswig ; † May 9, 1773 in Göttingen ) was a German medic , doctor and philosopher .

Life

Georg Matthiae was born near Husum on March 20, 1708, received a previous philosophical education and then studied medicine at the universities of Helmstedt (until 1732) and Göttingen from 1729 . After working as a translator of French works in Berlin and after a stay in Hamburg, he returned to Husum, where he practiced as a doctor. In 1736 he was hired in Göttingen at the university library there as a research assistant with a view to philological literature. For Master of Philosophy and the Doctor of medicine, he was in 1741 doctorate , after which he held academic lectures on pathology, therapy and medical literature. In 1748 he was promoted to librarianship, in 1755 he became an associate professor in medicine and in 1764 a full professor. He held this position until he died on May 9, 1773 at the age of 65.

His sons Friedrich Christian Matthiä (1763-1822) and August Matthiä (1769-1835) were well-known educators and non-fiction authors.
