Georg Mickley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Mickley (born August 4, 1816 in Alt Bliesdorf , † August 18, 1889 in Freienwalde ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Georg Mickley was born as the son of the old Bliesendorfer master carpenter. It is believed that after learning the carpentry trade from his father, he went to Wroclaw . There he was trained as an organ builder with Johann Christian Benjamin Müller (1771–1847). He was considered to be the inventor of the portal flute, an open wooden flute of 8 'and 4', which was later also found in Mickley's organs. He worked as a journeyman with Gottlieb Heise (1785–1847) in Potsdam . Heise's influence can also be found in his works. In 1846 he opened his own workshop in Freienwalde. The carpentry and organ building workshop was located on Kietzer Strasse (later Uchtenhagenstrasse 3). On March 1, 1847, he married Albertine Wilhelmine Köbeler (born April 3, 1823 Freienwalde; † December 23, 1879). The marriage had ten children, the eldest son also became a master carpenter, but none of the children took over the organ building workshop.
