Georg Otto Hermann Klotz

Georg Otto Hermann Klotz (also Klotz II. , Born May 21, 1818 in Bad Carlsruhe ; † September 6, 1878 in Wiesbaden ) was royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently inspector of the 3rd engineer inspection.

His parents were the forester Paul August Ferdinand Klotz and his wife Johanna Elisabeth Schubert . His brother Julius Gustav Adolf (1812-1892) was also lieutenant general.

Life

He volunteered in the 3rd pioneer department on April 1, 1835. On September 1, 1835, he went to the 5th pioneer department. From October 1, 1836 to September 12, 1839 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . During this time he was appointed portepeef ensign on October 1, 1837, aggregated as a second lieutenant on October 8, 1838 , and transferred back to the 3rd pioneer department on September 1, 1839.

After his return he was transferred to the 5th Pioneer Division on April 12, 1840, where he was assigned on October 11, 1842. On May 1, 1843, he was sent to the Glogau fortress for fortification services , but on August 23, he was sent to the Schweidnitz fortress for fortification services . On June 26, 1848, he was transferred to the 6th Pioneer Department and on August 2, 1848, he returned to Schweidnitz. On January 27, 849 he became adjutant to the 2nd Engineer Inspection. On May 30, 1850 he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant and on October 10, 1852 to captain. But on March 29, 1856 he was transferred to the fortress building in Königsberg in Prussia , where he was appointed fortress director on October 11, 1861, and on March 6, 1862 he was promoted to major.

During the mobilization for the German War , he was transferred to the staff of the High Command of the 2nd Army on May 19, 1866 as 2nd engineer officer . He fought in the battle of Nachod and the battle of Königgrätz . On September 17, 1866, he returned to Königsberg as the fortress construction director. On September 20, 1866 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords . On January 19, 1868 he was also awarded the 3rd class crown medal and on July 3, 1868, he was promoted to colonel. On August 9, 1868, he came to the 4th Engineer Inspection as an inspector.

In the run-up to the Franco-Prussian War he was appointed commander of a combined engineer regiment on August 21, 1870. During the campaign, he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class at the siege of Strasbourg , and later took part in the attack on the southern front of Paris.

On April 25, 1871, he returned to the 4th Engineer Inspection as an inspector. On December 16, 1871, he received the Iron Cross 1st class for the campaign . On May 10, 1872, he was posted to Strasbourg to carry out the business of inspecting the fortifications. Released from the position of pioneer inspector on October 12, 1872, while retaining the command. He received the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Swords and on March 22, 1873 he was promoted to Major General. On April 12, 1873, he came to the 3rd engineer inspection as an inspector. On January 18, 1876, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring . He was then put up for disposal on June 12, 1877 with the character of lieutenant general and pension . He died a little later on September 6, 1878, unmarried in Wiesbaden.
