Julius Gustav Adolf Klotz (born September 23, 1812 in Bad Carlsruhe , † April 4, 1892 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and inspector of the 4th engineer inspection.

Life

origin

His parents were the forester Paul August Ferdinand Klotz and his wife Johanna Elisabeth, née Schubert. His brother Georg Otto Hermann (1818–1878) also became lieutenant general.

Military career

Klotz joined the 6th Pioneer Department of the Prussian Army on April 1, 1830 and was assigned to the United Artillery and Engineering School on October 1, 1830 . By the end of December 1831 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and was aggregated to the 2nd engineer inspection . On July 21, 1831, he was assigned to the 5th Pioneer Department and on September 10, 1832, the classification. On January 15, 1833, he came to the 3rd pioneer department and on April 28, 1835 he came again, later together with his brother, to the 5th pioneer department. From there he was transferred to the Glogau fortress on March 10, 1836 for fortification services . On June 9, 1837, he was appointed adjutant of the 3rd Pioneer Department (from September 1939 again together with his brother), and on July 29, 1841, he was transferred to the fortress Schweidnitz for fortification services . He was then transferred to the United Artillery and Engineering School on August 5, 1843 as a second overseer. He was promoted to prime lieutenant on March 28, 1844 , and appointed teacher at the school in 1845. In 1848 he also became a member of the school's study commission, and on August 29, 1849 he was promoted to captain.

During the mobilization of 1850, he was deployed on November 7th as 2nd engineer officer in the General Command of the Guard Corps. He was released from this position on February 28, 1851. On April 3, 1852 he was transferred to the 1st engineer inspection as an adjutant. On May 1, 1852, he was also appointed a member of the Examination Board for Captains and Premier Lieutenant of the Engineer Corps. On July 20, 1852, he became the first adjutant of the first engineer inspection, and he was placed à la suite with the engineer inspection. On March 1, 1853, he was entrusted with the management of the business as the commander of the 3rd pioneer division, on May 31, 1853 he was confirmed as commander and the second engineer inspection was transferred. But on May 29, 1856 he was transferred from the square to the Neisse fortress as an engineer officer . He rose to major on June 5, 1857, and became a teacher at the General War School on December 11, 1858 . On August 25, 1859 he was again a member of the examination board for captains and Premier-Lieutenant of the engineering corps. But on May 10, 1861, he was transferred to the Ministry of War for service. In the ministry he was appointed head of the engineering department on September 20, 1861, he was also a member of the engineering committee and he was a teacher at the war school until 1865.

On October 18, 1861 promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 29, 1862 he became a member of the Higher Military Study Commission and the Study Commission for the War Schools. He was promoted to colonel on June 25, 1864, and on October 4, 1866, he was awarded the crown medal, 2nd class with a star.

Subsequently, on January 14, 1868, he was transferred to the 4th engineer inspection as an inspector. There he was awarded the Commander's Cross 2nd Class of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen on March 3, 1868 , and was promoted to Major General on March 22, 1868. He became a member of the Court for Conflicts of Competence on September 4, 1869. On February 19, 1870, he was released from his duties as a member of the study commission for the war schools.

During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War , on July 24, 1870, he became the representative of the Director of the General War Department in the War Ministry. On July 31, 1870, he became Deputy Minister of War. After the war he was reassigned to the 4th engineer inspection on March 12, 1871. From February 17 to March 27, 1871 he was an authorized representative in the Federal Council of the German Empire. On April 3, 1871, he received the Grand Cross of the House Order of the Wendish Crown and on April 27, 1871 the Order of St. Stanislaus, 1st class. He was promoted to lieutenant general on August 8, 1871. Under the star ceremony for Red Eagle II. Class with oak log was on 24 September 1872 Pension for disposition made. He returned to Silesia and died on April 4, 1892 in Karlsruhe.

Klotz married in Mühlberg Karoline von Wolfframsdorf (1820-1851), a daughter of the artillery major Johann Wilhelm von Wolfframsdorf (1761-1840).
