Georg Pelster (* 10. January 1897 in Rheine , † 25 June 1963 ) was a German trade unionist and politician of the CDU .

Life and work

After attending primary school , Pelster, who was a Roman Catholic , completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith and lathe operator from 1911 to 1915. In 1914 he joined the Catholic Workers 'Association and the Christian Metalworkers' Association (CMV). From 1919 to 1926 he was the full-time secretary of the CMV in Osnabrück , then in Mülheim an der Ruhr . In 1928 he moved to the head office of the union. He continued his education through various courses in economics and law. Besides his work in the CMV headquarters he was also an employee of the since 1928 the center belonging Reichstag Franz Wieber .

After the National Socialists came to power and the unions were brought into line, Pelster was unemployed from 1933 to 1937 until he was able to find a job as an accountant. In 1944 he was called up for military service and was briefly imprisoned towards the end of the war, from which he was released in 1945. He was involved in rebuilding the unions after the Second World War . In 1946 he was appointed acting chairman of the Rheine / Coesfeld Labor Court, was appointed Labor Court Councilor in 1948 and held this office until his election to the Bundestag.

Political party

Pelster was a member of the Center Party in the Weimar Republic and in 1945 helped found the CDU. From 1951 to 1961 he was chairman of the party in the Steinfurt district and then its honorary chairman until his death. He was also a member of the state executive committee of the CDU Westphalia .

MP

Pelster was a member of the district council in the Steinfurt district. From 1949 to 1961 he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he last represented the constituency of Steinfurt-Tecklenburg as the most recently directly elected member of parliament with 60.8% of the first votes . In the candidate list for the 1961 federal election, he was defeated by his internal party opponent Franz Falke . From July 16, 1952 to March 19, 1958 he was also a member of the European Parliament , where he served as vice-chairman of the Committee on Social Affairs.

Public offices

From 1946 to 1948 Pelster was mayor of the city of Rheine.
