Georg Pfeiffle

Georg Pfeiffle (born January 18, 1864 in Kehl , † June 18, 1921 in Mannheim ) was a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly from 1905 to 1912 . He is one of the early protagonists of German social democracy , he was a member of the Social Democratic Association in Mannheim and later temporarily chairman of the SPD in Baden .

Life

Georg Pfeiffle attended elementary school in Kehl and completed an apprenticeship as a cigar maker there from 1878 to 1881. As such, he settled in Mannheim in 1885. He spent his military service in Rastatt from 1887 to 1889 with the infantry regiment Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm No. 111. He was active in the labor movement, joined the Social Democratic Association Mannheim and the SPD in Baden at an early age, and from 1890 initially ran for several unsuccessful state elections. In 1891 he was a travel agent for the Volksstimme . In 1893 he came to the Mannheim city parliament as a city councilor, and was promoted to its executive committee in 1896. From 1905 to 1912 he was a member of the Second Chamber of Baden as a member of the 55th electoral district (Heidelberg district and parts of the Wiesloch district). He was on the Commission for Railways and Roads and was its deputy chairman from 1909. In addition to labor and household issues, he devoted himself to a wide variety of topics. After the end of his parliamentary term, he was again active as an editor and in local politics, but retired due to illness in 1920 and died the following year.

He was married to Apollonia Köhler, with whom he had two sons and two daughters.
