Georg Philipp Rugendas , called the Younger (born September 7, 1701 in Augsburg , † July 25, 1774 ibid) was a German painter and engraver from Augsburg. He came from the Augsburg artist family Rugendas and was the son of Georg Philipp Rugendas .

Rugendas the Younger was born in Augsburg in 1701. In the years 1714/1715 he began an artistic training in his father's workshop. There is evidence that he stayed in Vienna in 1722 for study purposes and in Venice the next year. In 1728 he married, from this marriage his son Johann Lorenz Rugendas came .

With the exception of one painting from 1740, which stands out for its independence, all of his work is strongly influenced by his father. His graphic work is very extensive, but of little quality. He mostly used templates from his father. A large part of his works are depictions of animals, sitting or resting. From the works from his youth to his older years, there is only little improvement in quality, but the motifs change towards exotic animals. Often his representations lack space and three-dimensional effect.
