Georg Philipp Wilhelm von Wangenheim (born November 24, 1735 in Hanover ; † August 1, 1799 in Walsrode ) was lieutenant general of the Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg , chief of the 4th Cavalry Regiment and Lord of Sonneborn .

Life

His parents were General Georg August von Wangenheim (1706–1780) and his first wife Sophie Caroline Mehmet von Königstreu († 1758).

He joined the army early, took part in the Seven Years' War and in 1760 was a captain in the bodyguard. He became (brigade) major on November 12, 1763 with a patent on December 16, 1762, lieutenant colonel in 1781 and colonel and commander of the life guard on October 17, 1789. On February 28, 1793 he was transferred to the 4th Cavalry Regiment in Walsrode, was appointed major general and in the same year, after the death of General Johann Friedrich von der Bussche, he became chief of the 4th Cavalry Regiment. On May 15th, 1798 he was appointed lieutenant general before he died on August 1st, 1799 in Walsrode.

He married Eleonore Caroline Sophie von Becker on December 17, 1792 (around 1766–1847). She was the eldest daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Ernst Philipp von Becker and his wife Dorothea von Arend . The couple had no children.
