Georg Rast (born March 16, 1651 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † January 14, 1729 there ) was a German medic.

Life

The son of the deacon in Bartenstein and later pastor of the Steindammer Church in Königsberg Laurentius Rast and his wife Anna Faber were matriculated as Georg Rostius, pauper at the University of Königsberg on October 4, 1661 . Apparently this was just a deposit that was customary at the time, because another entry on May 27, 1669 could have been his actual start of studies at the Königsberg University. However, the entry here is Georg Rast from Bartenstein. If this is correct, it should be the same person who matriculated at the University of Rostock in November 1670 . After his studies, he seems to have completed an educational trip.

So he enrolled on October 4, 1678 at the Dutch University of Leiden , where he on 10 November 1678 as a doctor of medicine doctorate . In 1682 he returned to Königsberg, where he was given an extraordinary professorship at the medical faculty. In 1690 he was appointed adjunct there. In 1705 he became fourth full professor, in 1707 second and in 1711 first professor. In that capacity he also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. In the winter semesters 1709/10 and 1711/12 he was vice-rector and in the winter semesters 1713/14, 1717/18, 1721/22 and 1725/26 rector of the Alma Mater . In 1728 he retired and died after falling from a staircase.

Rast married Anna Katharina on April 17, 1679 (* March 21, 1656 - November 17, 1723), daughter of the Königsberg professor Georg Wosegin . The marriage resulted in two daughters and four sons, of whom the physician Christian Friedrich Rast (1686–1741) and the mathematician Georg Heinrich Rast (1695–1726) gained importance.
