Georg Samuel Albert Mellin

Georg Samuel Albert Mellin (born June 13, 1755 in Halle (Saale) , † February 14, 1825 in Magdeburg ) was a German philosopher and Reformed pastor in Magdeburg.

Mellin studied theology in Halle from 1772 and then became rector of the reformed school and assistant preacher in Züllichau . After 1791 he came to the German Reformed Congregation in Magdeburg via the pastoral office in the Reformed community in Brandenburg an der Havel , where he rose from the office of third preacher to that of first preacher and consistorial councilor until 1801 . In 1804 he also became an inspector ( superintendent ). In 1817 and 1823 it was listed at Neuer Weg 17 .

Mellin's second marriage was to Rosamunde von Katte . One of their children was the architect Friedrich Albert Immanuel Mellin .

Outside Magdeburg, Mellin is remembered today primarily as a commentator on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant . Of his numerous works, the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Critical Philosophy (1797–1803) is probably the best known. It is still one of the most important reference works on Kant.
